THE STORY BEHIND
“As the Founder speaks”
Finding myself in difficult circumstances, leading a busy work in an MNC and a personal
life, I never knew there would be a day where I had to take care of my two cousins.
My father's brother passed away and my aunt is an illiterate. I could imagine how
tough their future may be without their father and no one to support them. It took
no time for me to decide that I have to bring them up.
"Destiny punishes you more when you are already in pain." I could sense this when
my neighboring village got burnt in a fire accident and many were left homeless.
I knew the definition of charity, but did not act upon it. After realizing that
I have to take care of two of my cousins, I could see that there were many children
in the same village (Diguvapalli, AP) who were in similar circumstances and a few
more from my neighboring village.
I then made the decision to look after my two cousins and as many other children
in need as possible. I started thinking about charity, which I never did before.
After a few days, I returned to Bangalore. I made up my mind to start an orphanage.
In the process, I discussed this with my friends, colleagues and well wishers.
At the same time I approached my friend and guide Mrs. Aruna Diwakar. She had a
dream of adopting a girl child. Due to some family differences, it was not a possibility.
She promised her support in this ambition of mine. She started thinking and acting
the way I did. We both worked with other orphanages and NGOs. We gained understanding
and prepared a plan. We then formed a “Trust” and registered the orphanage.
It all began by taking care of 5 children. A month passed, my friends and colleagues
started visiting our orphanage. It took no time for them to see what is happening
and help us. I cannot believe the way I have been supported and what has been achieved
so far. We are a bigger team now. We have also spread our support to senior citizens
and support to children in rural areas in various ways. The success of Abilashrayam
Children Home (Orphanage) made us think about the Village I was born. Soon we spread
our support in Diguvapalli Village, AP. Our various activities are now spread across
Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
The organization is now supporting more than 200 children and 20 senior citizens
Abilashrayam was started by 2, supported by a few and looking forward to support
many.
